Monthly Commentary

"I booked two appointments at the NEBA Breakfast Mixer last Thursday at Jump 360 Trampoline Park.  Thank you for all that NEBA does for mine and other businesses."   I. Li

That's wonderful feedback to receive! This is what we work hard to do; create an environment for individuals, businesses, community and government officials to come together in one location - to network, make connections and build opportunities through interactions.

Special thanks to Jump 360 Trampoline Park for sponsoring the food, refreshments and venue.  Thank you Aaron Saunter, Director, for hosting the event.  Thank you MLA Chris Nielsen (Edmonton-Decore) for the update on developments in North Edmonton.   We heard almost 40 individuals showed up after 7:30 AM to network, mix and mingle.  The early bird does get the worm!

It's February 1st and we are keeping an eye on how things develops on many fronts - the Kinder-Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline, following information about a political party leadership race, and at the Municipal Level (an online survey):  Metro Line Northwest LRT Extension Project Comment Form Submissions are open until February 9, 2018 at midnight.  Tracks in Trenches: City Takes new north LRT design to the public (Edmonton Journal, Elise Stolte, Jan 23, 2018)

Special thanks to Councillor Andrew Knack (Ward 1) for your article contribution - "How do you or your business want to be engaged?"

We are very pleased to announce that the Town of Gibbons has signed on to become members of the North Edmonton Business Association.   We look forward to working with you and Councillor Darren McCann during 2018.  Please see feature article providing more information about Town of Gibbons.

Our next Business Mixer, Tradeshow Show and Networking event will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2018 - at Kohinoor Restaurant & Grill.   Check out sponsorship opportunities for the event (Event Sponsor $400, or NEBA Member Event Sponsor $200) or book a tradeshow table (Non-Member $80 or NEBA Member $65).  [Mar 28 Event Details] Register now and join us at this upcoming event!

Our next community event will be held on Saturday February 24, 2018 as we host the third annual Lunar New Year Celebration - Welcoming the Year of the Dog with Title Sponsor - Londonderry Mall.  In keeping with the theme of the year of the Dog, Edmonton Humane Society will help with the dog show performances.  They will also have their adoptable animals and Bingo Pet Store on location at Londonderry Mall, right in front of Simons.  Lion Dance will start about noon so please join us as we ring in the new year! North Edmonton - City Councillors (Ward 1-4 and Ward 7)

How do you or your business want to be engaged?

by Councillor Andrew Knack (Ward 1)

In my quest to keep doing better public engagement I wanted to get your thoughts on the above question. I’ll list the ways I currently try to engage and I’d like your feedback on what I can add and how I can enhance the current methods. Right now I try to engage through the following ways:

1) Hosting quarterly Community Conversations across Ward 1 where we talk in detail about various issues that impact the City of Edmonton.

2) Knocking on doors once or twice a month. Each month I pick a different neighbourhood and visit anywhere from 100-200 doors. The purpose of this is trying to connect with people who may never call or email but still have opinions on various issues.

3) Writing blog posts on my website. I have enjoyed being able to write lengthier posts to provide the rationale to the decisions I’ve made and gather your feedback on those issues.

4) Every six months I visit the seniors residences across Ward 1 to talk about issues in a similar format to the Community Conversations.

5) Last year I started hosting Facebook Live videos to talk about different issues and take questions. I realize that since there are many people busy with family/life, it can be hard to come out to a specific meeting. By doing a video, people can watch it when it’s convenient for them.

These aren’t the only methods but they provide a reasonable overview. I’m interested in getting as much feedback as possible about how you or your business would like to receive information and share your feedback. Please feel free to share your comments on the current methods as well. If you think one of the current methods need work, let me know how it can be improved. Thank you for the opportunity to continue serving you over the next four years and I’m looking forward to connecting with you.
