North Edmonton - City Councillors (Ward 1-4 and Ward 7)

Councillor Ed Gibbons (Ward 4) - Traffic Controls

Over the past five years, Ward 4 saw an 11 per cent population increase, making it the third fastest growing ward in the city. Growth has its benefits, like more children in neighbourhood schools and customers for local businesses. But it can also be challenging, particularly when it comes to building transportation infrastructure to deal with higher traffic volumes.

As a resident of Ward 4, I witness firsthand many of the traffic trouble spots in our area. I’m working to improve safety and traffic flow at a number of locations, and I am committed to seeing many of these issues resolved in 2017.

We are in the early phases of assessment on a number of projects. The traffic controls at the intersection of 144 Avenue and 50 Street are being reviewed, and the signage at the intersection of 153 Avenue and 18 Street is being examined as well. Traffic Operations is also reviewing the traffic volumes at 153 Avenue between the Henday and Manning Drive, as well as Victoria Trail and 153 Avenue, to determine if these sites need enhanced traffic controls.

Other projects under review include widening 50 Street between 153 Avenue and 164 Avenue and 167 Avenue between 54 Street and 76 Street, adding traffic controls at 153 Avenue and 66 Street and at 167 Avenue and 66 Street and the construction of new crosswalks around the Clareview Recreation Centre.

We successfully funded traffic lights for the intersection of Highway 28A and Manning Drive and at 18 Street and Manning Drive. An extension to the northeast river valley trails has also been approved, but will not come to Council for funding until February 2018.

With so much going on in our city, it can be easy for small projects to fall through the cracks. As your City Councillor, I’m committed to steering these projects through the process of review and implementation, and I will keep residents informed about my on-going progress.

If you have questions about any other city project, please don’t hesitate to call 311 or my office at (780)496-8138, or send me an email at ed.gibbons@edmonton.ca.

Bernal Business Services - May 4 Event Information

Bookkeeping is a process that ends in numbers.  The numbers that tell you if you have made a profit or a loss.  The numbers that tell you if you have enough money to pay your staff next week or buy that piece of equipment you need.  The numbers that tell you whether the investment in your business is making you more money than an investment in mutual funds.

But all too often we overlook the process that is required to get accurate and useful numbers, and the government rules and regulations around tax deductible expenses, employment standards, GST, and more.

Bookkeeping - it isn't just numbers!  Join us for an evening presentation on the magic and art of bookkeeping.
